The Scheme

The directive: Classical, but Punk.

The client arrived with the classical already in hand. A Pompeian Art Deco folding screen in reds, golds, blacks. A pair of pull-up chairs she reupholstered herself in leopard silk velvet. Three generations of a New England antique dealer’s eye, already in the room.

The punk was the assignment.

Gutsy color pulled from the feeling of a Leighton House sitting room. Not the palette, the FEELING. Ladylike florals pushed past ladylike by the company they keep. A jungle mural. A bold antique Khotan rug in a modern color palette. All showing a sense of conviction. The grandmother built the classical. The granddaughter added the punk. We built the room where both are completely at home.
